How tarot spreads work
In a spread, each position asks a question of its own. The Tower in a "recent past" position describes an upheaval that's already behind you; the same card as an "outcome" points to a shake-up still to come. Reading a spread means reading each card through its position, then stepping back to see the story the cards tell together.
Bigger spreads aren't better, only deeper. Start with three cards for everyday questions, and save the larger layouts for the situations that deserve a closer look.

Frequently asked questions
What is a tarot spread?
A tarot spread is a layout of cards where each position has its own meaning, such as past, present and future. The position shapes how each card is read, so the same card can say different things in different spreads.
Which tarot spread should I use?
Use a three-card Past, Present, Future spread for a quick, clear look at a question. Choose the Celtic Cross for a complicated situation, the Love & Relationship spread for matters of the heart, Career Crossroads for work decisions, and the Year Ahead for a month-by-month guide.
How many cards should a tarot spread have?
Anything from one card to twelve or more. One card gives a quick answer, three cards tell a simple story, five cards explore a relationship or decision, and ten or twelve cards give the deepest, most detailed reading.
